Griddlesode #9: The Birth of a Disclaimer

In this Griddlesode we...

1) Read an email that came to Ron by mistake

2) Talk about lawyers and advertising folks

3) Listen in on a business meeting that illustrates how those long disclaimers at the end of commercials come to be.

Here is a direct link to Griddlesode #9 (10.9MB) but if you like the show, please subscribe—either through the XML or iTunes links on the side.

Oh, and checkout the promo at the end of the show for The RedJazz Podcast.

What do you call 5000 dead lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?

A good start!

It is unfair to believe everything we hear about lawyers, some of it might not be true.

Why does California have the most lawyers and New Jersey the most toxic waste dumps?
New Jersey had first pick.

Ron, why do those potato chip bags keep getting smaller and smaller but the price stays the same? Maybe they’re looking out for our health? Naw, I don’t think so.

Seems like the RIAA has struck again. This was found on the abouve link on Monday, May 28th, 2007.

“Where is the Red Jazz Podcast?

A lot of people have emailed us asking why the Red Jazz podcast is “off the air”. The reason is best reflected in a January 18, 2007 article in the New York Times on the arrest of mixtape icon DJ Drama. A quote from the article states “most of DJ Drama’s mixtapes begin with enthusiastic endorsements from the artists themselves”. Such was the case for the Red Jazz podcast, but we felt the uncertainty of the position on podcasting from the RIAA, ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC was not worth the risk of continuing the show. Thank you all for your support and please enjoy the other fine jazz podcasts listed in our directory.”

What a pitty.

Whether you were raised listening to a radio or not, the great stories told in Griddlecakes is a throwback to a time when people of our country hung on every word that a radio broadcast sent out. -- Ron Hill
